Talisha Brown

Endemol

''I had a hard year looking for jobs in TV to the point that I felt like giving up.''

24 year old Talisha from Newport, Wales, moved to London to do the training with MAMA Youth Project as a trainee production coordinator. Talisha was supported by Mitcham Job Centre Plus during the training scheme.

"I would describe my time at MAMA Youth Project like a roller coaster ride, as I've had highs and lows but it was all worth it as it has made me a stronger person in many areas of my life.

I wasn't sure I would be able to do the training due to financial pressures and also not having somewhere to live in London. This was eventually kindly sorted out with the help of MYP team. I moved from Wales to live in London for the 3 months training and that was a challenge in itself, as my mum and I are very close. Being in London without her was hard but she was my piece of home that helped me know I could do this, I knew I wasn't just trying to make my life better, I was also doing this for her.

Before MYP I was helping out on my local radio which was fun, however I finished Aberystwyth University the year before with the impression that I would leave Uni and go straight into a job, which was not the case. I had a hard year looking for jobs in TV to the point that I felt like giving up, as I would get to the final stages of application processes and then be unsuccessful.

During my time at MYP I've gained more knowledge than I did at University and learned a lot more about the industry, as well as meeting important people who came to do talks with us. I finished the training program with a paid job at Endemol for 3 months in the facilities department. MYP has helped me so much. Life after University is a struggle and if you want to work in TV this training will help you onto the platform, the rest is down to your hard work. My advice would be: be yourself, don't feel like you have to justify yourself as a person, work hard and stay positive because you will make it in the end". - November 2014
